Democrats are preparing to launch a formal US Senate investigation into financial ties between JPMorgan Chase and Jeffrey Epstein once they take control of the upper chamber in January, CNBC reported Thursday.
The probe, likely to be directed by incoming Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden, will scrutinize executive decision-making, focusing heavily on Mary Erdoes, CEO of Asset & Wealth Management at JPMorgan, a source familiar with the committee’s thinking said.
JPMorgan Chase has not issued an official statement regarding the reported Senate investigation.
Securing majority status gives Democrats committee subpoena power to compel the production of internal correspondence, bank records and unredacted compliance files.
Wyden signaled his intent to pursue the investigation in a post on US social media company X on Wednesday.
Epstein, a convicted sex offender and disgraced financier, died by suicide in a federal detention center in New York in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
