ERBIL, Iraq
Gunmen on Monday attacked the governorate building in Erbil, the seat of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq.
Three gunmen broke into the building and opened fire on Kurdish forces, according to an Anadolu Agency reporter on the ground.
According to a Kurdish security source, the gunmen were shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is Greatest) during the attack.
Another security source said that security forces had managed to kill the three attackers in an exchange of fire inside the building.
A Kurdish guard was reportedly injured in the attack.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
There was no comment from the KRG authorities or Iraqi government on the assault.
