Turkish President Erdogan to visit US for 81st UN General Assembly

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay the US a four-day visit starting Sunday to attend the UN General Assembly High-Level Week in New York, an official statement said.

Erdogan is set to address the 81st General Assembly on Tuesday, the opening day of the high-level general debate, said Communications Director Burhanettin Duran on Saturday.

This year’s session is being held under the theme “Building Trust Again, Managing Transformation: A UN That Delivers for Everyone.

During his visit, Erdogan is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the heads of state and government of various countries.

The president is further expected to attend a series of events in the United States involving representatives of Turkish citizens living in the country, Turkish-American business circles, and think tanks.

The visit comes as world leaders gather in New York for the annual UN General Assembly, one of the main forums for international diplomatic discussions.
