Kazakhstan on Friday hosted an Aqaba Process summit focusing on AI security in the Central Asian nation’s capital Astana.
The country’s presidential press service, Akorda, said in a statement that the summit was attended by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Other key figures who attended the event included Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev and Sahiba Gafarova, speaker of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly.
The Aqaba Process is an initiative launched by King Abdullah II in 2015, providing a platform for countries and international organizations to address emerging security threats and strengthen coordination in combating terrorism.
King Abdullah II arrived in Astana on Thursday, where he held bilateral talks with Tokayev, during which the latter said his country values the initiative.
“It is a great honor for us to co-organize the first meeting in this format to be held in Central Asia. The theme of this session – security in the realm of artificial intelligence – is highly relevant today.
“I am confident that this summit will provide an opportunity to present the perspective of the Central Asian region and will give fresh impetus to our collective efforts to maintain peace and security,” Tokayev was quoted as saying in a statement by Akorda.
