Trump greets Xi Jinping for state visit at White House

US President Donald Trump greeted Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House Thursday as part of a three-day state visit featuring closed bilateral talks, military honors and a state dinner.

Xi arrived in Washington on Wednesday, where Trump greeted him planeside after officials agreed to extend a trade truce until January.

Trump and Xi are scheduled to deliver remarks ahead of closed-door talks, followed by an evening state dinner hosted with First Lady Melania Trump.

The talks come amid friction over Taiwan, trade, AI safety and critical minerals.
